Amnesty International has revealed that at least 10,217 Nigerians have been killed in violent attacks since President Bola Tinubu took office two years ago, condemning the government’s failure to curb escalating insecurity. The report highlights Benue (6,896 deaths) and Plateau (2,630 deaths) as worst-hit, with 672 villages sacked and 450,000 displaced. Armed groups now control 529 villages in Zamfara alone, while new factions like Lakurawa and Mamuda emerge.

“The authorities’ failure to hold perpetrators accountable fuels impunity,” said Isa Sanusi, Amnesty Nigeria Director. A Zamfara resident lamented: “The only government action is issuing statements after we’re killed.”
