Twelve Nigerian students were named best globally in English at the 2024 Cambridge exams, as 99 learners received awards in Lagos.
Twelve Nigerian students have been ranked the best in English worldwide in the 2024 Cambridge O Level and IGCSE examinations, earning ‘Top in the World’ honours at the British Council Recognition and Outstanding Cambridge Learner Awards in Lagos.
The event, hosted by Cambridge University Press & Assessment in partnership with the British Council, celebrated 99 learners from 44 Nigerian schools. The English achievers include Ohimal Okoye, Alvin Ebiuwhe, Amanda Enechukwu, Emmanuella Oze, Grace Sanya, Kamsiyochukwu Onochie, Kenechukwu Morayo Uba, Mercy Abilogun-Wole, Moboluwaduro Asalu, Ololade Olayinka, Tanamera Bassey and Ifunnaya Onaga.
Other global top scorers from Nigeria were Babafemi Akinyera (English Language), Temidola Odufuye (Sociology), Momoreoluwa Afolabi (Economics) and Kobamoye Kobe Odum (Agriculture).
British Council’s Regional Exams Director, Deep Adhikari, praised Nigerian families, saying: “Nothing is more important for the Nigerian parent over education and these awards are a testament to that.”
Officials also highlighted the importance of critical thinking, digital literacy, and sustaining paper-based exams in regions with limited technology.
