15,000 Nigerian children lost to HIV in two years – Remi Tinubu

The Federal Government has revealed that no fewer than 15,000 children under the age of 14 have lost their lives within 2024-2025 to HIV-related illnesses across the country.

Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, has disclosed that 15,000 children under 14 died from HIV-related illnesses between 2024-2025. Speaking at the launch of the Free to Shine campaign in Akure, she described the deaths as “unrealised potential,” urging nationwide action to combat mother-to-child transmission and improve treatment access.

“These are not just numbers, but lives filled with unrealised potential,” Tinubu stated, highlighting Nigeria’s status as Sub-Saharan Africa’s HIV epicenter, with 100,000 children and 2 million adults living with the virus in 2024.
