The Edo State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested an 18-year-old Nigerien, Mohammed Isah, for unlawful possession of illicit drugs.

State Commander Mitchell Ofoyefu disclosed this on Monday in Benin City while presenting his first monthly operational scorecard. He said Isah was apprehended during a raid in the Oluku area of Benin City and was found with methamphetamine (4g), cannabis sativa (54g), tramadol 100mg (6g), and Exol-5 (28g).

Two others—Isaac Israel, 33, from Akwa Ibom, and Precious Zion, 19, from Rivers State—were arrested following the seizure of 74½ bags of cannabis sativa weighing 1,115kg in Oke community, Uhunmwonde LGA.

“There is a direct link between drug trafficking and violent crimes,” Ofoyefu said. “Drug control is germane to Governor Monday Okpebholo’s fight against kidnapping and cultism in the state.”

He added, “The negative impact of drug trafficking… will be drastically minimised through proactive drug control strategies.” He urged community support and promised to remain committed to the fight.
