Studying abroad is costly, but Nigerians can still access quality education in five countries without breaking the bank.
Studying abroad remains a dream for many Nigerians, but tuition and living expenses often make it difficult. In 2025, however, Nigerians can access affordable or tuition-free higher education in several countries.
Germany tops the list, with public universities waiving tuition fees for both local and international students, requiring only a small semester contribution. Norway also offers free tuition at all levels, although living expenses can be high.
In Finland, tuition-free doctoral programs and generous scholarships for bachelor’s and master’s students make it a strong option for Nigerians. Austria, though not free, charges as little as €1,500 annually at public universities, while France provides low tuition and multiple scholarships, including the Eiffel Excellence Scholarship.
Each of these countries also allows students to work part-time, easing living costs. With English-taught programs widely available, Nigerians can access world-class education without excessive financial strain.
