“There was no deliberate attempt to undermine students from the South-East as every candidate is Nigerian and has equal opportunities,” Prof. Oloyede stated.
The Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, has debunked claims that a technical glitch in the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) was targeted at the South-East and Lagos.
Speaking during a management meeting ahead of Wednesday’s rescheduled UTME result release, Oloyede said, “There was no deliberate attempt to undermine students from the South-East as every candidate is Nigerian and has equal opportunities.”
The glitch had affected five South-East states and Lagos, prompting allegations of sabotage and calls for Oloyede’s resignation.
The South-East Caucus of the 10th House of Representatives, led by Igariwey Iduma Enwo, described the incident as a “national shame” and demanded a nationwide cancellation and rescheduling of the examination.
“The registrar of JAMB is said to be a good man, but then, leadership must carry consequences,” their statement read.
Oloyede also expressed regret over the reported death of a candidate, with the board observing a minute of silence.
