Buhari loyalists under the CPC bloc have aligned with Atiku Abubakar’s ADC, deepening rifts in APC ahead of the 2027 elections.
A faction of loyalists to former President Muhammadu Buhari has declared support for former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, intensifying cracks within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 elections.
The development followed a private meeting in Abuja where state chairmen of the defunct Congress for Progressive Change (CPC), Buhari’s original political base, met with Atiku at his residence. The CPC bloc accused the current administration of abandoning the ideals that brought APC to power in 2015.
One of the leaders said, “We are the true followers of Buhari, and we are here today, Sir… The CPC bloc is intact… We are now ready to merge into the new political platform that God has chosen for us, appointing you as the leader, that platform now being the ADC.”
Atiku welcomed the move, pledging to build “a government responsive to the needs of ordinary citizens.” He also urged them to mobilise for the ongoing voter registration exercise.
