Dr Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim says PDP should welcome Jonathan, Atiku, Obi to contest 2027 presidential ticket, adding, “The more, the merrier.”
As preparations for 2027 intensify, PDP chieftain Dr Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim has welcomed the idea of former President Goodluck Jonathan, ex-Vice President Atiku Abubakar, and Mr Peter Obi returning to the PDP to contest the party’s presidential ticket.
“The more, the merrier,” Hashim said in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Ibrahim Hassan Mahmoud, adding that open competition would revive PDP’s democratic legacy.
Hashim recalled PDP’s 1998 founding, noting how early leaders like Ekwueme, Rimi, Lar, and Ciroma fostered inclusion. “We had giants under one roof… some dropped their ambition, others contested fairly in Jos in 1999.”
He credited PDP’s early strength to “free and fair internal democracy,” praising founding chairman Chief Solomon Lar for his openness.
“If Jonathan, Atiku, Obi and others wish to contest, they should be welcomed,” he added. “Let the best ideas and visions emerge.”
Hashim’s remarks reignite calls for ideological competition and could shape what may be PDP’s most contested presidential primary yet.
