Former First Lady Patience Jonathan has dismissed suggestions that her husband, ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, may contest against President Bola Tinubu in 2027.

Speaking in Abuja on Saturday during the Women Icon Leader of the Year Award, Mrs Jonathan declared, “I’m not running. I’m not going back to the villa. If you call me, I will not go.”

She expressed gratitude to Tinubu and his wife, Remi, for their past support during the 2011 election, saying, “We’ll campaign for you. Turn by turn. When it’s your turn, I will support you.”

Mrs Jonathan also reflected on her personal friendship with Remi Tinubu and stressed the importance of unity among women.

She backed the 35% affirmative action for women, lamenting repeated failures of gender equality bills in the National Assembly.

The event organiser, Accolade Dynamics, honoured her for advancing women’s health and development, with Patience dedicating the award to “all who support women’s empowerment in Nigeria.”
