PDP confirmed Goodluck Jonathan as one of its potential 2027 presidential candidates while dismissing claims of factional congresses, insisting its national convention in Ibadan will go ahead as planned.
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has confirmed that former President Goodluck Jonathan is among options being considered for its 2027 presidential ticket. The party, however, stressed that it has many “worthy personalities,” including performing governors, capable of flying its flag.
Speaking to reporters in Abuja on Monday, PDP National Publicity Secretary Debo Ologunagba said the November 15–16 national convention in Ibadan remains on track, dismissing speculations of sabotage. He also denied reports that a faction loyal to FCT Minister Nyesom Wike had conducted a state congress in Cross River, describing it as “mere hallucination.”
“Emphatically, there was no PDP state congress in Cross River State. Those who gathered only went there to have drinks and carnival; that is not a congress,” Ologunagba said. He added that the Southsouth Zonal Caretaker Committee, led by Chief Emmanuel Ogidi, would oversee Cross River pending fresh congresses.
On micro-zoning, Ologunagba said deadlines for nomination forms were extended to allow more consultations. He noted that 15 sub-committees have been inaugurated to ensure a smooth convention.
