“Nnamdi Kanu’s release is not a condition to support the president.”
Minister of Works, Sen. Dave Umahi, says the South-East region is fully behind President Bola Tinubu and will work for his re-election in 2027.
Speaking with journalists Friday night in Lagos, Umahi dismissed claims that the region was attaching conditions, like the release of Nnamdi Kanu, to support Tinubu.
“Somebody asked me about Nnamdi Kanu, and I said his matter is not a condition for the South East to support the President,” he said. “We are willing to negotiate his release, but no one should make it a condition because the President did not put him there.”
Umahi praised Tinubu’s leadership, reforms, and the ongoing federal infrastructure projects in the South-East.
“President Tinubu may not be perfect, but he is doing most things right,” he said.
He also denied rumours of a 2027 presidential ambition. “I will not run. I will work for my boss, President Tinubu. The South East now has a voice at the centre. We will not return to Egypt,” he said.
