“The move by the minister is to stave off competition for the ticket of the PDP,” a party source said.

The Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike, is reportedly leading efforts within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to bring back Mr. Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate.

Sources within the PDP told Saturday Telegraph that Wike and other top members are offering Obi the party’s 2027 presidential ticket.

“The move by the minister is to stave off competition for the ticket of the PDP,” a PDP National Working Committee member said, naming Governors Makinde and Bala Mohammed as other contenders.

Obi, who was Atiku Abubakar’s running mate in 2019, left the PDP for the Labour Party in 2022. Though yet to join the ADC officially, internal divisions over the 2027 ticket have sparked speculations about his next move.

Obi’s ally, Dr. Yunusa Tanko, confirmed the overtures: “We are just focused on selling the candidature of Peter Obi… Any platform that wants to engage us, we are ready.”

Wike’s media aide denied knowledge of the effort, saying simply: “No!”
