Over 25,000 members of a faction of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) from 184 wards in Abia State have defected to the Social Democratic Party (SDP).
Led by Azubuike Peter Chijioke, the group was received in Abuja by SDP National Chairman Shehu Gabam, who described the defection as a major boost ahead of the 2027 elections. “You are joining a leading party… SDP has learned from APC and PDP’s mistakes,” Gabam said.
He emphasized the need for digital registration in line with INEC requirements. Chijioke cited discontent with APGA’s leadership, stating, “Our structure spans 184 wards and 17 LGAs… we align with SDP’s iconic leadership.” The defectors requested INEC recognition, 25,000 membership cards, and party materials.
