Adeniran reportedly lost control of his motorcycle amid a downpour and was dragged by the raging flood.
The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed the death of Wasiu Babatunde Adeniran, a 60-year-old motorcycle operator, who was swept away by floodwaters during a heavy downpour on May 20 along the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway in Alakuko. Police spokesperson Benjamin Hundeyin stated that Adeniran lost control of his bike and was dragged away by the raging flood.
After an intensive search, Adeniran’s motorcycle was recovered downstream by 6pm that evening, but his body was not found until the next morning. “The body was discovered at about 9am on May 21 at the Obasanjo River in Ota, Ogun State,” Hundeyin said. Police have deposited the corpse in a morgue for autopsy.
Authorities have launched an investigation, with detectives visiting both the accident and recovery sites to gather evidence. The police extended condolences to Adeniran’s family while reaffirming their commitment to a thorough probe. The incident highlights recurring flood risks on Lagos roads during heavy rainfall, raising concerns over drainage maintenance and emergency response.
