96 houses burnt, three killed in Plateau community attack

Three people have been confirmed dead and 96 houses destroyed in Gyenbwas community, Langai District of Mangu Local Government Area, Plateau State. The attack, which occurred between Monday and Tuesday, also left residents counting losses of food, mattresses, cattle, and valuables allegedly looted by the assailants.

The traditional ruler of the area, Alhaji Yakubu Umar, told Daily Trust on Tuesday in Jos that the attackers also destroyed working tools and property worth millions. “We have never experienced such atrocities. The perpetrators burned working equipment, clothes, foodstuffs, and other items.

They also looted goods worth millions of naira. We live peacefully with everyone and that is why we were very surprised,” Umar lamented.

He said two people were killed on Monday and a third body was recovered the following day. The community accused members of the Berom ethnic group, who have denied involvement. Umar called on the Plateau State Government and Mangu LGA to investigate and assist affected residents.
