Former Rivers State Head of Service, George Nwaeke, has refuted reports that he was kidnapped and coerced into addressing the press yesterday. Nwaeke insisted that he traveled to Abuja willingly to report himself and recent developments in Rivers State to security agencies.
The clarification comes after Nwaeke made serious allegations against Governor Sim Fubara during a press briefing yesterday. Shortly after his appearance, his wife raised an alarm, declaring him missing and suggesting he may have been abducted and forced to speak against the governor.
However, in a video released this morning, Nwaeke confirmed that he was staying at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel in Abuja and had traveled there to engage with security agencies.
“My name is Frank Nwaeke, and I’m in Transcorp in Abuja,” he stated. “I came here this morning from Port Harcourt to meet with security agencies to report myself and the events in Rivers State that are deeply troubling.”
Nwaeke also disclosed that he resigned as Head of Service on Monday due to the unsettling political situation in the state.
The conflicting accounts have sparked confusion, with authorities yet to issue an official statement on the matter. Meanwhile, concerns remain over the safety and circumstances surrounding Nwaeke’s recent statements.
