Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has condemned the mob action by a vigilante group along the Uromi-Obajana Road in Edo State, calling it “barbaric, illegal, and criminal.” The attack occurred after vigilantes intercepted a group of travelers carrying 19 locally made firearms and, doubting their claim of being hunters, accused them of kidnapping. “Regrettably, without allowing for due process,” some were subjected to mob justice, leading to tragic consequences. Fourteen suspects have been arrested, and a manhunt is underway for others.

The IGP directed the FCID to take over the investigation, ensuring a thorough and impartial probe. He reaffirmed the police’s commitment to upholding the rule of law and warned against unlawful killings.
