The Edo State Police Command has arrested 14 suspects linked to the killing of armed travelers in a truck at Udune Efandion community along the Uromi/Obajana Expressway. According to Command spokesperson CSP Moses Yamu, the incident occurred on March 27, 2025, when vigilante members stopped a truck carrying 25 travelers from Rivers State. Some passengers, found with locally made dane guns, were detained, but a mob soon gathered, accusing them of being kidnappers. “Some members and passersby in the community… attacked and lynched sixteen (16) of the occupants while the truck conveying them was equally burnt,” the statement revealed.
Police swiftly intervened, rescuing 10 travelers, two of whom sustained injuries and are receiving treatment. “Fourteen (14) suspects have been arrested in connection with the crime,” Yamu stated, adding that an emergency meeting with community stakeholders was held to address the situation. Commissioner of Police Betty Otimenyin urged calm, warning against reprisals and emphasizing the importance of peaceful coexistence. Security reinforcements, including the Police Mobile Force and tactical teams, have been deployed to maintain order.
