David Mark set a standard that inspired a new generation of legislative leadership
Former Senate President Bukola Saraki has commended his predecessor, Senator David Mark, for setting a high standard in presiding over the National Assembly. Saraki described Mark as “a patriot and a statesman,” citing his remarkable track record as a two-time Senate President, retired Brigadier General, former Minister of Communications, and one-time military Governor of Niger State.
“He contributed immensely to the growth and deepening of the legislature in Nigeria,” Saraki stated, praising Mark’s leadership style and legislative impact.
Current Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, also paid tribute to Mark’s legacy. “I have learnt a lot from one very outstanding presiding officer and his name is Senator David Mark,” Lawan said. He acknowledged both Mark and Saraki for their roles in laying the foundation for the achievements of the Ninth National Assembly.
Their remarks came as part of continued recognition of David Mark’s influential role in shaping Nigeria’s legislative landscape.
