Buba Galadima, a chieftain of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), has alleged a covert plot to destabilise Kano State and compel the federal government to declare a state of emergency. Speaking Tuesday on AIT’s Jigsaw, Galadima claimed the scheme was orchestrated without President Bola Tinubu’s knowledge.

“On the Kano situation… Tinubu didn’t know what happened, what was arranged,” he said. “There was a grand design to set up the Kano state government, including the Emir…”

He further alleged a high-level meeting in Abuja facilitated the plot, noting that a key figure, reportedly favoured to become Emir, had been sent to Saudi Arabia under the guise of religious pilgrimage.

“There was a meeting… and the man that was supposed to be appointed Emir was sent to Umrah…”

The development comes after the Inspector-General of Police withdrew a controversial invitation sent to Emir Muhammadu Sanusi over alleged killings during Eid-el-Fitr. Galadima declined to name individuals involved.
