Human rights lawyer Inibehe Effiong has revealed how Alabi Quadri, the teenager who went viral during Peter Obi’s 2023 campaign, was allegedly framed for armed robbery. Quadri, who gained fame for greeting Obi during a Lagos rally, has been in Kirikiri prison since January after local youths reportedly kidnapped him for refusing to share gifts received after his viral moment.

Human rights lawyer Inibehe Effiong has revealed the disturbing details behind the imprisonment of Alabi Quadri, the teenager who went viral during Peter Obi’s 2023 presidential campaign. Quadri, who gained fame for enthusiastically greeting Obi during a Lagos rally, has been held at Kirikiri prison since January over alleged armed robbery charges his family claims are fabricated.

Effiong disclosed that Quadri’s ordeal began when local street urchins allegedly kidnapped him for refusing to share monetary gifts he received after his viral moment. “The area boys dragged him to Amukoko Police Station, first accusing him of street fights before upgrading the charge to armed robbery,” Effiong stated. Shockingly, police charged Quadri alongside four strangers for allegedly robbing victims of money and phones using cutlasses.

Peter Obi and other Nigerians have expressed outrage over the case, with Effiong vowing to fight for justice. The lawyer emphasized the charges contradict Quadri’s character, noting the teen was returning from work when abducted.
