Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, has expressed concern over the detention of 15-year-old Alabi Quadri, who has been held without trial since January 2025. Quadri gained public attention in 2023 after standing in front of Obi’s campaign convoy in Lagos State.

Human rights lawyer Inibehe Effiong confirmed Quadri’s prolonged detention at the Minimum Security Custodial Centre in Kirikiri, Lagos.

Obi, speaking from London, stated, “I sincerely appeal to the police and other agents of the government to always operate within the law and the rules and stop weaponizing citizens, especially our youths.” He emphasized the need for authorities to respect legal procedures and protect citizens’ rights. Obi has engaged Effiong to intensify efforts for Quadri’s release.
