The court ordered the PDP and INEC to recognise Egwu as the substantive National Vice Chairman for the Southeast zone.

The Federal High Court in Abakaliki has affirmed the nomination of Chief Sunday Egwu as the substantive National Vice Chairman (Southeast) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Justice Hilary Oshomah, delivering judgement in suit No: FHC/AI/CS/229/2024, filed by Egwu, ruled against Umar M. Bature, Chief Ali Odefa, the PDP, and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The court held that “under Articles 45, 47(6), 58, and 59 of the PDP Constitution (as amended, 2017), and a prior ruling in suit No: FHC/AI/CS/182/2024,” Odefa’s suspension and expulsion by his ward’s executive committee rendered the Southeast Vice Chairmanship vacant.

Egwu, nominated by PDP stakeholders in the Southeast to complete Odefa’s term, was declared the rightful occupant of the position.

The court directed the PDP and INEC to officially recognise Egwu and barred Odefa from “parading himself as the Southeast National Vice Chairman.”
