Nigerians living abroad can now renew their passports through a seamless online process, eliminating the need for in-person visits to embassies or consulates. The new initiative, launched by Nigeria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, aims to make passport renewal more efficient for the diaspora community.
Under the new system, applicants will submit their documents and biometric data digitally. “The new system ensures that Nigerians in the diaspora can renew their passports without having to physically visit the embassy or consulate,” said a spokesperson for the Ministry.
The move is expected to reduce processing times and minimize the challenges Nigerians abroad face when trying to renew their passports. It also signals a significant step toward modernizing Nigeria’s consular services. The initiative is currently operational in select countries, with plans to expand further in the coming months.
