Bukayo Saka scored a goal and missed a penalty as Arsenal progressed to the Champions League semi-finals with a 2-1 win over Real Madrid at the Bernabeu, sealing a 5-1 aggregate victory.

Arsenal, leading 3-0 from the first leg, had a chance to extend their lead early after being awarded a 13th-minute penalty. “Saka stepped up but his weak, chipped effort was saved by Thibaut Courtois.”

The England international redeemed himself in the second half, converting Mikel Merino’s clever pass with a brilliant chip over Courtois. Real Madrid responded swiftly through Vinicius Junior, who capitalised on William Saliba’s error.

The hosts thought they had a penalty after Kylian Mbappe went down under minimal contact, but VAR overturned the decision.

Gabriel Martinelli secured the win in stoppage time with a breakaway goal, again assisted by Merino.

“It is just the third time Arsenal have reached the semi-final stage,” where they’ll face Paris St-Germain.
