“We appeal to the immigration authorities in Cape Verde to please treat the tourists with respect and dignity and put them on the next immediate return flight to Dakar,” Dabiri-Erewa said.

Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairperson of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), has appealed to Cape Verdean authorities to release six Nigerian tourists detained at Sal Airport.

Identified as David James Udoh, Lily Dada, Oghenero Adaware, Sherifat Abimbola Ogundairo, and Jesutomi Aina, the group had traveled from Senegal to Cape Verde for vacation before being pulled from the immigration line and accused of lacking sufficient funds. Their phones were confiscated, and they were placed in a deportation camp.

According to a statement by NiDCOM spokesperson Abdur-Rahman Balogun, one detainee suffers from a medical condition and currently has no access to medication.

“We appeal to the immigration authorities in Cape Verde to please treat the tourists with respect and dignity and put them on the next immediate return flight to Dakar,” Dabiri-Erewa said.

She assured that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Consular and Migration Directorate are actively following the matter.

“Their return is of utmost concern,” she added.
