The Apapa Magistrate Court has discharged and acquitted Alabi Quadri, the teenage boy who became a national symbol after standing before Peter Obi’s 2023 campaign convoy. The court ruled Quadri had “no case to answer” regarding armed robbery and conspiracy charges, ending his months-long detention at Kirikiri Prison.
Human rights lawyer Inibehe Effiong disclosed Quadri’s arrest stemmed from local thugs’ resentment over his viral fame, stating they “felt entitled to financial support” he received. Quadri was allegedly abducted in January and falsely charged alongside strangers for a N579,000 robbery he didn’t commit.
