Segun Sowunmi says PDP will decide on coalitions based on strategy, not pressure.

A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Segun Sowunmi, has said the party will not be coerced into forming a coalition ahead of the 2027 general elections. Speaking in an interview on Thursday, Sowunmi emphasized that while collaborations are not off the table, the PDP must approach them on its own terms.
“We will not be forced into any coalition,” he stated. “We will look at the political space, analyze our strengths, and determine the best approach to serve Nigerians.”
Sowunmi also criticized recent calls for opposition unity, suggesting they may be attempts to weaken the PDP’s identity. He stressed the importance of strategy and vision in any political alignment, rather than desperation or pressure.
