The Trump administration has spent weeks trying to mediate a ceasefire, but Russia continues to demand that Ukraine halt mobilization efforts and Western arms intake — terms Kyiv rejects.

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said Friday the U.S. could abandon efforts to broker a peace deal between Russia and Ukraine if progress isn’t made “in the coming days.”

Speaking after high-level talks in Paris involving U.S., Ukrainian, and European officials, Rubio noted, “We are now reaching a point where we need to decide whether this is even possible or not.”

Rubio said discussions were “constructive” and outlined possible steps toward peace, with another meeting expected early next week in London. “We want to decide in a matter of days whether or not this is doable in the next few weeks,” he added.

Presidential envoy Steve Witkoff has led efforts alongside Rubio, holding three meetings with President Vladimir Putin in recent months.

France hosted the Thursday talks amid growing European concerns over U.S. policy toward Russia.
