Nigerian chess master Tunde Onakoya has set a new Guinness World Record after completing a 64-hour chess marathon in Times Square, New York. The event, which began on April 17, ended at 12:40 a.m. on April 20, surpassing the previous 56-hour record. Onakoya played continuously without losing a game, aiming to raise $1 million for children’s education across Africa.
“We have done it,” he posted on X.
The marathon attracted global attention and support, including visits from Nigerians in the diaspora. Guinness World Records will officially confirm the feat after reviewing submitted evidence.
