State Police legal framework underway —Senate leader

“Nigeria is our ultimate project…”

Leader of the Senate, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, has disclosed that the National Assembly is developing a legal framework for the establishment of state police, as part of efforts to address Nigeria’s escalating insecurity.

Bamidele made the revelation in his Easter message, combining spiritual reflection with a call for national unity. “While the Authority of the National Assembly is in the process of developing legal frameworks for the establishment of state police… we urge security agencies to work together… to apprehend all the masterminds and sponsors of terror attacks nationwide,” he stated.

The senator, representing Ekiti Central, urged leaders to emulate Christ’s sacrificial example, warning against divisive politics in a fragile federation. He condemned recent killings in Benue and Plateau, saying they “outrightly negated the virtues of peace and love that Jesus Christ taught.”

He cautioned political actors against exploiting national challenges for self-interest, stressing, “Nigeria is our ultimate project… our goal is to build a federation… noted for peace, progress and prosperity.”
