China on Monday warned countries against striking a broader economic deal with the United States at its expense, ratcheting up its rhetoric in a spiralling trade war between the world’s two biggest economies.
Beijing has issued a stark warning to U.S. partners that follow Washington’s calls to curb ties with China—threatening “resolute” retaliation and cautioning that global trade could revert to a “law of the jungle.”
The announcement, from China’s Ministry of Commerce, comes amid renewed U.S. tariff pressure and deepening trade tensions.
“China respects all parties resolving economic and trade differences with the United States through consultation on an equal footing, but it will firmly oppose any party striking a deal at China’s expense. Beijing will take countermeasures in a resolute and reciprocal manner if any country sought such deals. United States has abused tariffs on all trading partners under the banner of so‑called ‘equivalence,’ while also forcing all parties to start so‑called ‘reciprocal tariffs’ negotiations with them,” Chinese Ministry of Commerce said.
