“This is a message; a warning to the people of Duruma village, the Emir… and the illiterate vigilantes,” the voice declared. “Whoever doesn’t want to fight us should… relocate… we will kill everyone we see.”
A new terror group known as “Mahmuda” has issued a chilling threat to residents of Duruma village and the broader Borgu Kingdom in Kwara State, SaharaReporters has learnt.
In an audio message obtained Monday, the group’s leader, speaking in Hausa, condemned the formation of local vigilante units and directly threatened the Emir of Duruma.
“This is a message; a warning to the people of Duruma village, the Emir… and the illiterate vigilantes,” the voice declared. “Whoever doesn’t want to fight us should… relocate… we will kill everyone we see.”
The speaker also warned smugglers aiding security forces: “Look for alternative roads… come prepared with your white burial garment.”
This threat follows Friday’s attack in Baruten LGA, where gunmen shot indiscriminately, razed vehicles, and burned motorcycles belonging to vigilantes.
The group claims it had lived peacefully in Borgu for five years, but now vows retaliation, accusing locals of igniting conflict. Security agencies are yet to issue an official response.
