“We’ve issued a very explicit proposal to both the Russians and Ukrainians, and it’s time for them to either say yes or for the U.S. to walk away from this process.”
Vice President JD Vance warned Tuesday that the U.S. could exit Ukraine peace efforts if Russia and Ukraine fail to accept a ceasefire proposal. Speaking to reporters in India, Vance said, “We’ve issued a very explicit proposal to both the Russians and Ukrainians, and it’s time for them to either say yes or for the U.S. to walk away from this process.”
His comments followed Secretary of State Marco Rubio’s decision to skip the London peace talks, citing “logistical issues.” Rubio wrote on X that he plans to “follow up” after the meetings and reschedule his UK visit.
Gen. Keith Kellogg, Trump’s special envoy to Ukraine, will represent the U.S. in London.
Vance added, “The only way to really stop the killing is for the armies to both put down their weapons, to freeze this thing.”
President Donald Trump said the U.S. has “a good chance” of brokering peace, though experts remain doubtful amid continued fighting and mutual distrust.
