CNN’s Jake Tapper launched a scathing attack on CBS owner Shari Redstone for ‘bending the knee’ to Donald Trump on Tuesday, following the resignation of longtime 60 Minutes producer Bill Owens
CNN anchor Jake Tapper sharply criticized CBS owner Shari Redstone on Tuesday, accusing her of capitulating to former President Donald Trump amidst a $20 billion lawsuit over a 60 Minutes interview with Kamala Harris. The backlash follows the resignation of longtime 60 Minutes executive producer Bill Owens, who cited his inability to make “independent decisions” under mounting corporate pressure.
Trump alleges CBS deceptively edited Harris’ October interview, benefiting Democrats. CBS staff defended the edit as standard broadcast trimming. Reports suggest Redstone is pushing to settle the suit to clear the way for a merger with Skydance Media—owned by Trump ally Larry Ellison’s son—which requires FCC approval.
Tapper said, “It seems as if Shari Redstone is likely to bend the knee to Trump,” highlighting her potential $8 billion gain. A 60 Minutes source added: “Owens wouldn’t apologize. He fought for independent journalism, and that cost him his job. It’s shameful.”
