“The killing of innocent people in Borno, Benue and Plateau States must cease,” Tinubu said.
President Bola Tinubu has directed security agencies to immediately end the persistent killings in Borno, Benue, Plateau, and Kwara states, declaring, “Enough is enough.”
The president issued the directive during a security meeting at the State House in Abuja on Wednesday, according to a statement by his spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga.
“The killing of innocent people in Borno, Benue and Plateau States must cease,” Tinubu said.
National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, disclosed that the president had earlier instructed security heads to visit affected states and meet with political authorities.
“The fact is that Mr President is insisting that we work harder to restore security in the country,” Ribadu stated.
Recent weeks have seen over 100 people killed in Plateau, more than 50 in Benue, and renewed Boko Haram attacks in Borno.
Opposition leaders, Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi, as well as Bishop Matthew Kukah, criticised Tinubu’s absence and inaction.
“Nigeria is gradually becoming a huge national morgue,” Kukah warned in his Easter message.
