Minister of Aviation Festus Keyamo is holding a closed-door meeting with top aviation stakeholders and union leaders following a strike by Nigeria Meteorological Agency (NiMet) workers that has disrupted flight operations nationwide.

NiMet workers began an indefinite strike on Wednesday, demanding improved welfare and promotions. The action has grounded flights at several airports, including Lagos, Abuja, and Kano. Air Peace suspended operations, citing safety concerns, while others like Ibom Air and Arik Airlines continued flying.

Keyamo’s aide, Gbenga Saka, announced the meeting on Thursday, stating it includes NiMet executives, agency heads, and leaders from aviation unions such as NUATE and ANAP.

“The meeting is aimed at addressing concerns surrounding the ongoing strike and working towards an immediate resolution,” the statement read.

Despite some unresolved demands, NiMet management expressed surprise at the strike, saying progress had been made. Workers insist protests will continue until all issues, including implementation of the new minimum wage, are addressed. An official statement is expected after the meeting.
