Former Senate President Bukola Saraki has expressed shock over the defection of former Delta State governor and PDP vice-presidential candidate in 2023, Ifeanyi Okowa, to the APC.
Okowa defected alongside Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, Deputy Governor Monday Onyeme, and other top Delta officials.
Reacting, Saraki described the move as “unbecoming and shocking for the running mate to the standard bearer of a leading party to abandon ship.”
He added that Okowa’s action reflects the collapse of leadership values, stating, “It is simply a sign of how low we have sunk as a polity.”
Saraki insisted the PDP remains strong despite defections and urged others planning to leave to do so now.
“My view is that those who want to leave the PDP should leave now,” he said, urging committed members to focus on rebuilding.
He emphasized that democracy requires a viable opposition, calling the PDP’s current situation a “rebirth.”
