At least seven people, including an infant, have been confirmed dead following a fresh attack on Agbo Vengav Udam village in Gwer West LGA, Benue State.

The assault, reportedly carried out by suspected armed herders around 7pm on Thursday, left two others critically injured and three abducted, including the infant’s mother.

“They passed through the border village of Otukpo and, entering into Agbo, they shot their guns sporadically, killing the seven people on the spot. They took away three people with them,” a local source told PUNCH.

Gwer West LGA Chairman, Victor Ormin, confirmed the attack and described the situation as “becoming unbearable.”

This incident follows the recent killing of 17 people in Logo and Ukum LGAs. Police spokesperson Catherine Anene confirmed that militia invaded the Sankera axis and attacked unsuspecting farmers.

The police are yet to issue a formal statement on the latest attack.
