She sat for the examination this morning because she was complying with the instruction of her grandfather to do nothing at the examination but wait for miraculous intervention.
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has cautioned candidates against relying on “miraculous intervention” during the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), recounting an incident where a female candidate refused to attempt any questions. The candidate allegedly acted on her grandfather’s instruction to wait for divine help, prompting the Board to denounce such superstitious beliefs.
In a statement issued by JAMB’s Public Communication Adviser, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, the Board described the incident as a reflection of widespread deception and gullibility among candidates. “Candidates are advised against superstitious and baseless dreams of reaping where they did not sow,” Benjamin stated, emphasizing that success in the exam requires preparation, not miracles. The Board reiterated its commitment to credible assessments and urged candidates to rely on hard work rather than false hopes.
