The Drug Enforcement Administration said it executed a raid on an illegal, underground nightclub in Colorado Springs Sunday morning.
More than 300 federal law enforcement officers, along with local authorities, executed an enforcement operation for a drug investigation at the club near the intersection of South Academy Boulevard and Airport Road, Jonathan Pullin, special agent in charge of the Rocky Mountain Division of the DEA, said.
“This is an underground, illegal nightclub and what was happening inside was significant drug trafficking, prostitution, crimes of violence, we seized a number of guns in there,” Pullin said.
The raid was the result of a months-long operation led by the DEA that involved undercover and surveillance work.
Pink cocaine, or “tusi,” was among the drugs found, along with other drugs, Pullin said. There were at least dozens of small packages of drugs found and investigators are working to test and identify them.
There were also more than a dozen active duty military members who were either working as armed security or attending the club as patrons, and were involved in some of the alleged crimes, Pullin said.
The Army Criminal Investigation Division is working with the DEA to determine the next steps for the active duty members.
The DEA estimated more than 200 people were in the nightclub, and 114 people who were detained are not in the country legally. They were taken into Immigration and Customs Enforcement custody. Some others were arrested on outstanding warrants, and others were turned away and not detained.
