The NWC meeting will address the defection of party members to the All Progressives Congress and explore ways to prevent further defections.
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has scheduled an emergency National Working Committee (NWC) meeting for Tuesday to address a wave of defections, including the loss of its Delta State stronghold. Former Vice Presidential candidate Ifeanyi Okowa, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, and the entire Delta PDP structure recently defected to the APC, following what insiders call ‘Hurricane Tinubu.’ The opposition warns Nigeria is drifting toward a one-party state as the PDP faces its worst crisis since 1998.
The party has lost multiple federal lawmakers, including Osun’s five-term Reps member Oluwole Oke, with more defections expected ahead of 2027 elections. Senator Samuel Anyanwu, despite tensions with PDP Governors’ Forum chair Bala Mohammed, vowed to attend the NWC meeting. A party source confirmed the agenda focuses on *”stemming further defections and stabilizing the party.”
