According to the OAGF, “the arrears will be disbursed in five monthly installments of N35,000 each.”

The Nigerian government will commence the payment of outstanding N35,000 wage award arrears owed to federal workers after the April 2025 salary, the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation (OAGF) announced Monday.

According to the OAGF, “the arrears will be disbursed in five monthly installments of N35,000 each.” The wage award, introduced in 2023, aimed to cushion the economic impact of fuel subsidy removal.

The OAGF explained that earlier payments had been made but could not be sustained due to fiscal constraints. It noted that this renewed effort “demonstrates the government’s commitment to honouring agreements concerning staff remuneration and welfare.”

Negotiations with labour unions had led to the initial wage award agreement, pending a broader national minimum wage review. Delays in payment had previously sparked dissatisfaction and threats of industrial action.

The government appealed for “patience and cooperation” as it implements economic reforms to stabilize national finances.
