The Russian Federation has committed to deepening military cooperation with Nigeria in its fight against terrorism, offering weapons, operational support, and strategic expertise.

During a courtesy visit to Nigeria’s Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, at the Defence Headquarters in Abuja, Russia’s presidential representative, Lieutenant General Andrei Averianov, relayed the pledge on behalf of President Vladimir Putin and Russia’s Minister of Defence.

“The visit marked a memorable day in the history of the Russian Federation,” Averianov said, adding that Russia was ready to share counterterrorism strategies developed during its operations against 39 adversary nations.

Musa, welcoming the delegation on behalf of President Bola Tinubu, stressed the importance of expanded partnerships in special operations training, intelligence sharing, and equipment maintenance.

He highlighted Nigeria’s need for assistance with unserviceable Russian-made platforms and appealed for spare parts and technical support. Musa also thanked Russia for personally delivering equipment and fulfilling its commitments.
