Even among Republicans, just 23% credit Trump with lowering local costs, and nearly as many expect his tariffs to hurt personal finances as help.

A growing majority of Americans believe President Donald Trump’s policies have worsened the economy, with 59% now expressing dissatisfaction—up from 51% in March—according to a new CNN/SSRS poll released Monday.

Public sentiment remains bleak, with 71% rating current economic conditions as poor and 69% fearing a recession in the next year. While Republicans are more optimistic, only 12% of Americans say Trump’s agenda has reduced prices; 60% believe it has raised living costs.

Tariffs have drawn particular skepticism, with 55% calling them “bad policy” and 72% expecting short-term economic harm. Only 28% believe they will help the economy long-term.

“My wife lost her job due to the Trump administration DOGE cuts,” wrote a Democrat from Pennsylvania. “Everything is just so, so much worse than it was before Trump took office.”
