Damagum labeled their actions as “betrayal” and warned of imminent disciplinary measures.
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has warned that it will sanction governors and elected officials supporting President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in 2027.
Acting National Chairman Umar Damagum issued the warning on Tuesday during the party’s first National Working Committee (NWC) meeting since recent high-profile defections.
Naija News reports that Governors Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom and Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State, now affiliated with the All Progressives Congress (APC), are among those backing Tinubu.
Damagum labeled their actions as “betrayal” and warned of imminent disciplinary measures.
“They can coerce, cajole and intimidate our members into joining them. But Nigerians will show them the results of their actions,” he said.
The NWC ratified decisions from the PDP Governors’ Forum meeting, including dissolving Delta State structures and forming a South-South caretaker committee.
Damagum said legal steps would be taken to reclaim mandates from defectors: “As far as the Electoral Act says, whenever you leave, you must leave the chair that you have occupied.”
