The Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to release embattled businesswoman Aisha Achimugu within 24 hours.

Justice Inyang Ekwo issued the directive on Wednesday, mandating the EFCC to comply and return to court on May 2 with a compliance report.

Achimugu was arrested by EFCC operatives at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport on Tuesday.

The commission is investigating her over alleged conspiracy, fraud, money laundering, and illegal acquisition of oil blocs through her firm, Ocean Gate Engineering Oil and Gas Ltd.

EFCC claims Achimugu jumped bail and was declared wanted after initially cooperating in a probe involving N8.7 billion in investment funds.

EFCC also alleged she operates 136 bank accounts and acquired oil blocs via suspicious cash payments.

Justice Ekwo had earlier ordered Achimugu to report to the EFCC ahead of her appearance in court.
