Lagos APC divided as President Tinubu’s son faces dynasty claims in governorship push.

Tensions are rising within Lagos APC and its influential Governance Advisory Council (GAC) over Seyi Tinubu’s rumoured 2027 governorship bid. The 39-year-old son of President Bola Tinubu has garnered youth and diaspora endorsements but faces resistance from party elders questioning his political experience. A senior APC source warned: “It would feel like dictatorship, not democracy. We risk alienating the electorate.”

The GAC, instrumental in selecting past Lagos governors, is reportedly split on the matter. While critics highlight Seyi’s lack of governance track record, supporters cite global political dynasties as justification. APC chieftain Laken Agbaje argued: “If the people want him and the party clears him, why not?” Seyi’s allies are reportedly positioning for local government roles ahead of the polls.

The debate has sparked concerns about political dynasty-building in Nigeria’s economic hub, with residents accusing Seyi’s camp of “undue interference” in grassroots politics. If successful, he would become Lagos’ youngest governor ever.
