Momodu warns that presenting Tinubu’s second term as a southern agenda could provoke northern resistance.

Veteran journalist and PDP chieftain Dele Momodu has asserted that only a northern candidate can challenge President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election. Speaking on Arise News, Momodu said, “Tinubu can only be countered this time by a northerner. Any southerner telling you, ‘I want to contest against Tinubu’, is going to waste his time.”

He warned that framing Tinubu’s re-election bid as a “southern project” may alienate other regions. “We made that mistake during June 12. It is the same error of judgment I see Tinubu’s people committing right now,” he said.

Momodu claimed growing dissatisfaction in the North, citing Tinubu’s appointments as favoring personal allies over regional balance. “The North is naturally aggrieved,” he added.

While praising Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, he dismissed the possibility of any Yoruba challenger defeating Tinubu. “He’s a guy I like but I know that at the end of the day, that cannot happen,” he said.
