“They came in large numbers and overpowered us; they gathered our people and slaughtered all of them as punishment for conniving with the Islamic State West Africa Province faction.”

Boko Haram terrorists killed 18 fishermen and left scores missing in a brutal Sunday attack along the Fadana-Garuwa River in Mobbar LGA, northern Borno. Witnesses reported dozens of insurgents on motorcycles targeted the victims, accusing them of leaking information to rival ISWAP fighters. “They gathered our people and slaughtered all as punishment,” survivor Abu Mohammed told reporters by phone, calling it a warning against collaboration with ISWAP.

Local sources said the attack was retaliation by a Boko Haram faction controlling Niger’s riverine areas. The victims’ bodies were recovered and buried Tuesday under Islamic rites. The fishermen had reportedly paid “taxes” to ISWAP for river access. This comes as both terror groups escalate attacks on civilians and military targets across Borno, Yobe, and Adamawa states.
